BuildIT Founder Drives Rising Construction Management (CM) Programing at CMAA National Conference!

BuildIT Founder, Vigor Lam, was a ‘standout star’ at the recent Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) National Conference held October 27 through 29, 2024 in producing the CM Rising Program. Vigor is a Senior Project Engineer (PMCM) at Jacobs, specializing in educational/campus and sustainable/green construction and design and also a third year Ph.D. student in Higher Education Leadership at Colorado State University researching universal accessibility and equity in the built environment on college and university campuses.

The CMAA National Conference, which BuildIT was highly involved in, was attended by over 1,400 businesses, professionals and public agency representatives. The CM Rising track had over 180 attendees and is the only program in the nation that focuses on students in construction management degree programs.

About the CMAA’s CM Rising Program:

The CMAA's "CM Rising Program" refers to a set of initiatives aimed at supporting and developing early-career construction professionals, often called "Rising CMs," by providing them with educational opportunities, networking connections, and career advancement pathways to become fully qualified construction managers.

Key aspects of the CM Rising Program include:

CMIT Certification:

The core element of the program is often the "Construction Manager-in-Training (CMIT)" certification, which is a tiered system designed to guide individuals through the fundamentals of construction management with increasing levels of knowledge and experience.

Mentorship and Networking:

CMAA chapters often facilitate mentorship programs where experienced construction managers can guide and support rising CMs in their career development.

Educational Courses and Workshops:

The CMAA offers specialized training courses and workshops specifically tailored to the needs of early-career professionals, focusing on critical construction management skills and industry best practices.

Emerging Leaders Programs:

Some CMAA chapters have dedicated "Emerging Leaders" programs that provide focused development opportunities for young professionals through leadership training, panel discussions, and career planning guidance.

Overall, the CM Rising Program acts as a structured pathway for individuals entering the construction management field to gain the necessary knowledge, skills, and connections to progress in their careers and eventually become fully certified Construction Managers.
