BOC attends SFCTA West Side Bridges Retrofit Project Groundbreaking Ceremony

Founders of BuildOUT California had the honor of attending, and participating in, the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the San Francisco County Transportation Authority’s West Side Bridges Retrofit Project which was headlined by Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. This $121 Million critical infrastructure project seismically upgrades the west-bound I-80 Treasure Island Interchange and Road and improves safety and circulation for motorists as well as for travelers on bicycle and transit. The project, which will be delivered by the CM/GC delivery method has already met/exceeded the DBE participation goal established for the project and it also includes LGBT business participation in key phases of the project.

The event, held at the historic Administration Building on Treasure Island that was built for the 1939 World’s Fair, included remarks from a host of transportation dignitaries from across California, was lead by the amazing Tilly Chang, Executive Director of the SFCTA and top-level executives from the California Transportation Commission, Caltrans, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the Treasure Island Development Authority, and the ‘City Family of San Francisco’ including Supervisor Rafael Mandelman and City Attorney David Chiu.

Special ‘shout out’ to Rudy Gonzalez, Secretary Treasurer of the San Francisco Building and Construction Trades Council who talked about the important role that minority, women and LGBT businesses play in these critical infrastructure projects. Mr. Gonzalez highlighted BuildOUT Founder Anco Iron’s Nick Colina as an example of ’real impacts created by a third-generation, family-owned, minority and LGBT business.
